The Edmonton Insurance Association
was founded in 1981 and was known as the Insurance Women of Edmonton. The association was formed to help women in the insurance industry network with other women and increase their business and insurance knowledge through monthly meetings with guest speakers and seminars. This was the first business opportunity for many women in Edmonton to meet and network. Membership in the association was and continues to be supported by many of the industry companies.
Membership was strong and continued to grow. In 1985 the EIA became a member association of the Canadian Association of Insurance Women. At that time the EIA became the sister association the Insurance Professionals of Calgary and we are still linked with them today. Locally the EIA hosted monthly member meetings with guest speakers; wine and cheese networking events along with other events to raise funds for local charities. Members also represented the EIA at the Annual General Meeting and Convention of the CAIW by participating in the various awards. Our members have participated in the public speaking contest, essay contest and our association has made submissions to win other national awards that are offered.
Over the years the industry has seen a lot of changes. In 1989 the Association changed its name to the Edmonton Insurance Association. This change opened up membership to all individuals in the insurance industry along with all our industry partners. The association continues to foster Education, Fellowship and Loyalty. In today’s busy environment we no longer offer monthly dinner meetings, however several networking and educational events are offered during the year. The EIA has been raising funds for the Edmonton Food Bank for over 25 years. This is our main charitable organization. See our community page to see our total contributions.
We are proud of the fact that our association promotes membership from all individuals involved directly in the insurance industry along with our industry partners. We believe we offer our members the opportunity to foster personal and professional growth through our educational seminars. By participating in the networking events, members are offered the opportunity to meet colleagues in the industry in a relaxed environment.
